Mercury Mentors
(5-7 years old) Half Day 9 AM – 1 PM
This introductory class is designed to teach young sailors basic concepts of seamanship and the sport of sailing. Sailors in this group will learn how to control a sailboat using fun games and challenges. We use a Cape Cod Mercury for this class where an instructor sails with the new sailors at all times. It’s a great way for children to become comfortable and safe on the water!
Opti Learn to Sail
(8-12 years old) 9 AM – 4 PM
This class focuses on basic sailing skills for beginners. Children will learn how to steer and trim around a course, as well as learn points of sail. This course focuses on sailing fundamentals and gives an introduction to racing. 7 Year-olds can participate if they have completed a past fall or spring Mercury Mentor program.
Green Fleet
(8-12 years old) 9 AM – 4 PM
Designed for sailors who have participated in at least one season of fall/spring Green Fleet, this course is a great opportunity to keep practicing over the summer! This course focuses on rigging, sail trim, wind awareness, points of sail, boat handling, safe capsize and recovery, and tactics and strategy for racing.
420 Learn-To-Sail
(12-16 years old) 9 AM – 4 PM
Students learn the fundamentals of sailing a two-person 420 dinghy including rigging, sail trim, wind awareness, points of sail, boat handling, and safe capsize and recovery. This is a fun opportunity to learn to sail with a friend!
